Always fancied trying Muay Thai?
This is the way in. Your first class is free. Tom teaches it for beginners every Friday, so you can start on any one of them and nobody expects you to know a thing.
Who this is for
"I've always fancied trying that."
Then this is built for you. No experience needed, and the first one costs you nothing.
"I'd like to get fitter but I hate normal gyms."
No machines and no plan to follow on your own. A coach runs the hour, you train as a group, and the fitness comes with it.
"I'd like to learn something while getting fit."
Every session teaches real Muay Thai technique. By week six you can throw punches, kicks, knees and elbows properly.
"I'd be nervous walking into a normal class."
So would most of the room. It is a beginners class, taught from the basics every week, so you are not walking into people who have trained for years.
"I'm probably not fit enough."
You are. It starts from zero, everything is done at your own pace, and your fitness builds week by week.
"Everyone there will already know what they're doing."
They won't. This is the beginners class. Most of the people in it are new too.
How it works
Six Fridays at 6pm at our gym in Waterloo: 18 Sep, 25 Sep, 2 Oct, 9 Oct, 16 Oct, 23 Oct. Gloves and pads are ours, so just bring sportswear and a bottle of water. There is no sparring on this course. It's pads, bags, technique and conditioning.
What a session looks like
Line drills
Footwork in every direction, plus basic combinations to the coach's count.
Pads & technique
The night's focus drilled properly on the pads, with drink breaks between rounds.
Clinch & light technical work
Light and technical, and always optional.
Conditioning & stretch
Finish strong, leave loose.
